Meet Chinu Kala

Chinu Kala is the founder and Director of Rubans Accessories. Despite having a difficult childhood, Kala has turned things around due to her strong will and hard work.

Humble beginnings

Due to family issues, Kala ran away from home at 15 with Rs 300 and a bag of clothes. She slept on Mumbai train station for 2 days. She worked as a salesgirl for Rs 20 per day.

How it started

She did several odd jobs to survive. However, things changed when she started working at a clothing store. There she learnt about customers and the value of good service.

Taking big risks

Chinu met her husband at Tata Communications, Mumbai after securing a position there. Her husband, Amit Kala is an MBA degree-holder who encouraged Chinu to take big risks.

From rags to riches

Chinu started her company in 2014 with her savings of Rs 3 lakh. The sales were boosted in the pandemic and now the jewellery company generates a revenue of Rs 40 cr per year.

Future goals

Chinu and her husband also appeared in Shark Tank India season 2 and amazed the judges. She currently has 5 locations and resides in Bengaluru with her husband and daughter.
