India Untold
This is an inspiring story of a woman who crossed all the obstacles in her life and achieved her dream of becoming an IPS officer.
Ambika, hailing from a village in Tamil Nadu, was married off at 14. She became a mother of two kids by 18 and an IPS officer at the age of 30.
During the 1998-1999, she attended Republic Day Parade with her kids, and saw her constable husband saluting the IPS officers.
Ambika’s education was discontinued after class 9 due to her early marriage. After attending the parade, the idea of joining the officer ranks sparked within her.
Ambika expressed her desire to pursue UPSC when she wasn’t even aware of what it meant. Her family members and her husband dismissed it as a joke.
However, she was ready to accept the challenges. Through distance education, she completed her class 10-12 studies and then pursued an undergraduate degree.
Upon completing her graduation, Ambika and her family relocated to Chennai. There, she embarked on her UPSC journey.
Ambika experienced failures in her first three UPSC attempts. However, she refused to waver despite the setbacks.
Finally, Ambika accomplished her dream in the year 2008. Her joy new no bounds when she found her name in the final list of selected candidates.
Following her IPS training, Ambika was assigned to the Maharashtra cadre. Presently, she is stationed as the DCP for Zone 4 in Mumbai.
