From Roadside Carts to Establishing a 300-crore Ice Cream Company

Father’s occupation

Raghunandan S Kamath was born in a small village of Mulki in Puttur, Karnataka. He was the youngest of seven siblings, and his father made a living by selling fruits from a cart.

Childhood's struggles

Raghunandan helped his father in his business and could not continue his formal education, however, he had immense knowledge about various fruits and vegetables.

In search of opportunities

When Raghunandan was 14, his family relocated to Mumbai. He inherited a portion of a restaurant as part of their family assets.

Launching the business

Raghunandan ventured into ice cream business and opened his first outlet of Natural Ice Cream in Juhu in the year 1984.

Business strategies

Due to less demand of ice cream, Raghunandan also sold Pav Bhaji at his outlets to attract customers.

A commitment to providing the best

Raghunandan used fruits, milk and sugar to make his ice creams. No additives or adulterants were added, and this commitment remains a USP of the company to this day.

Diverse range of flavours

Raghunandan introduced five flavours of ice creams including mango, chocolate, apple, cashew, and strawberry.

Expanding the business

Raghunandan expanded his business by experimenting with flavours like jackfruit, raw coconut, blackberries, and offered a diverse and exciting range of choices to customers.
