At least 61 people were killed and 72 injured on Friday evening after several Dussehra revellers, who had spread onto the railway tracks while watching the burning of a Ravana effigy, were run over by a train.

'People should restrain from organising such events near tracks in future. Drivers are given specific instructions on where to slow down. There was a curve, driver couldn't have seen it. About what should we order an inquiry? Trains travel in speed only,' Union MoS for Railways Manoj Sinha said

Kaur had gone on to blame the railway authorities for not issuing directions regarding the movement of trains near the tracks.

According to the police commissioner, a survey of the area had been conducted as VVIPs were expected at the Dusshera event
