According to the police commissioner, a survey of the area had been conducted as VVIPs were expected at the Dusshera event
Amritsar: In a shocking revelation, police commissioner of Amritsar SS Srivastava has accepted that the cops had prior knowledge of the event and that a vast number of people were supposed to attend the event.
In an exclusive interview with MyNation, the commissioner said further that a survey of the area had been conducted as VVIPs were expected at the Dusshera event.
“Yes, we had received a letter from the organisers of the event. They had also mentioned that VVIPs would attend the event. We did a survey to ascertain the security of VVIPs,” Srivastava said when asked whether police permission for the event was sought and given.
The letter, which was sent to local administration, talks about the intimation given to the local police. In the letter, the organisers had said that a large number of people would attend the event. The letter specifically mentioned that MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Member of Parliament (MP) Navjot Singh Sidhu from the Amritsar constituency would be the chief guests.
The letter, which was written on October 15, bears the stamp of the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The police had received the letter on October 16, after which they forwarded it for further action to the police station of the area and other relevant authorities.
Furthermore, Srivastava said that the matter was under investigation due to which he could not comment on the allegation of police negligence.
According to some eyewitnesses, the police were present when Navjot Kaur was being felicitated. Once she left, the cops left the place, too.
