Ramanathapuram: Carcass of a fully-grown female humpback dolphin, which is categorised and protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, was found washed ashore on Wednesday (August 14) at Thondi seashore near Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters, forest range officer, S Sathish said that they found the decomposed carcass near the fishing harbour in Thondi and the dolphin had injuries in the nose part and could have succumbed to injuries three days ago.
He further said that the dolphin must have hit a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Mannar region.
