In 2016, Taniya and Sujata Biswas founded a saree brand that has since evolved into a profitable venture. 

Taniya Biswas

Taniya Biswas graduated from NIT Rourkela and holds an MBA from IIM Lucknow. After serving as an Associate Consultant at IBM, she decided to leave her job in May 2016.

Sujata Biswas

Sujata also holds an engineering degree and an MBA. She worked in branding and the steel industry before applying for a PhD at IIT Bombay to focus on e-commerce business studies.

Business ventures

Before launching 'Suta,' the two sisters experimented with several businesses, including a pancake chain and a photography page. Ultimately, they decided to launch an apparel biz.

Experience with diverse cultures

Sujata and Taniya's father worked in the railways, giving them the opportunity to live in various parts of the country and experience diverse cultures. 

Working with weavers

Suta implemented a unique policy of collaborating closely with weavers. Taniya and Sujata valued their suggestions and established a trusting relationship.

A connection

Suta's specialty lies in the stories behind each saree. Sujata and Taniya shared these narratives on their social media platforms, fostering a deep connection with their customers.

Suta's success

Starting with just two weavers in 2016, Suta now employs over 17,000 artisans.
