Ruma Devi lost her mother when she was 4 years old. Her father remarried, and Ruma spent her childhood in the care of her grandmother.
Ruma Devi had to discontinue her studies after class 8 due to financial constraints.
Her son fell it, and unfortunately, due to financial constraints, they couldn’t afford the necessary treatment, resulting in the tragic death of the child.
Her grandmother had taught her embroidery skills. Ruma embarked on a journey to work and support herself.
Ruma’s journey took a positive turn when she joined the NGO Deep Deval. Her impressive embroidery skills led to her appointment as the President of the NGO in 2010.
She worked towards connecting numerous women with the NGO, and now, around 30,000 women from 75 villages are part of this initiative.
This move proved successful as her products gained popularity and recognition.
In 2015, she earned an opportunity to participate in Rajasthan Heritage Week. Models of international designers Abraham and Thakuraj, walked the ramp donning her designs.
Ruma Devi was invited to Harvard University. Her impactful speech led to her being honoured with the Nari Shakti Award by the President in 2018.
