Chinese apps ban in 2020

The Indian government banned several Chinese applications and products such as TikTok, Shein, and more in 2020. It was done for safety and security measures.

Largest Online-Only fashion company

The ban did not stop Shein from becoming the world's largest online-only fashion company in 2022. It is an extremely popular fast-fashion brand that is growing everyday.

Shein in India

Shein currently has an evaluation of $10 Bn. Shein was founded in 2008 and launched in India in 2018. It revolutionized the fast fashion in India, however, had to leave in 2020.

Urbanic trying to fill the void

Online brands like Urbanic, The Souled Store, and Cilory tried but were not successful in filling the fashion void as they failed to match the popularity of Shein in India.

Meesho trying with affordable fashion

Another e-commerce company, Meesho also adopted the affordable fashion and content-led strategies by Shein to find success in the India fashion market.

Shein's comeback in India

Shein is making a comeback in India via the partnership with Reliance Retail. It won't be a standalone app but will have Shein's products on Reliance Retail's application.
