Verma has informed the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) that he will not take charge as director general of fire services and home guard. His resignation comes after the government sacked him from the post of CBI chief on Thursday

Verma had resumed charge on Wednesday. He will now take over as director-general of fire services, civil defence and home guard.
