Inspired by UK's Hay-on-Wye, renowned as the town of books, the former Education Minister Vinod Tawde launched this initiative in Satara, Maharashtra. Today, Bhilar is recognized as the first village of books in India.

Surekha Yadav, hailing from the Satara district of Maharashtra, pursued her education in Electrical Engineering from Government Polytechnic College. She made history by becoming the first female loco pilot in India in the year 1988.
