Cyclone Gaja is fast approaching to make landfall along Tamil Nadu coast. People are already witnessing heavy winds and rainfall.

In a few hours, heavy rainfall is likely to start in Tamil Nadu and Cyclone Gaja is expected to touchdown the coast by evening.

Cyclone Gaja is expected to bring massive rainfall between Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore and Pamban on Thursday. The state has put its administrative machinery on high alert.

The ongoing harvesting in Amreli district is pointing out at a drop of 30% in the yield of cotton and groundnut. Six of its 10 taluks (sub-division) have received less than 40% rainfall.
 

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) BP Sethi said the cyclone has "weakened into a deep depression", triggering continuous rainfall in the states.

The bus services to and from Tamil Nadu have been put on hold due to the heavy rainfall that will hit the state 

 Kerala will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days and a district wise warning has been issued in this regard
 

Met Centre has predicted that heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is likely to occur in 1 or 2 places in Kerala October 3 to October 6. Extremely heavy rain (21 cm and above in 24 hours) is likely to occur in 1 or 2 places on October 7.

The yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad and Wayanad on September 27.

Public works department, which is maintaining the road connecting Panjtirthi with Gujjar Nagar in the city, has pressed its men and machines into service to restore the road, the officials said.
