On Friday, Prime Minister Modi will flag off Train 18, renamed as Vande Bharat Express, which will cruise between Delhi and Varanasi at a maximum speed of 160 km/h

Ashwani Lohani, who retired last year after a non-controversial tenure in Railways, also had had a smooth tenure with Air India before. He was the managing director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism as well — a department that was revived under his tenure.

The Railways has also managed to cut down the duration of train delays drastically. The current figure shows that the Railways lost 50,760 minutes per day in journey time in January this year, which is three times lesser than the 1,60,493 minutes lost in January last year.

During a meeting, it was pointed out that there was no place in the train to keep food which was to be served to passengers during the journey.

Hubballi railway station in Karnataka already has this system in place and a blueprint for 202 additional stations is ready for implementation, said railway authorities.
