The Lok Sabha on Monday (December 9) passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, with a majority of 311 votes against 80 votes in the Lower House where 391 members were present. The debate on the same lasted for seven hours.

While Union home minister Amit Shah introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha, several leaders from the Opposition stood against the move. However, 293 members voted in favour of the Bill and 82 against it

As of 2 pm, the BJP had won 12 seats in the Karnataka by-elections, winning six more seats than required for a simple majority.
