Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg received $1 as his base salary in 2023. However, he also receives 'other compensations' from the company to fund his security and private jet.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently made headlines when his new bearded look surfaced on the internet. Despite it being fake and photoshopped, netizens on the internet had a field day with the picture, making new memes and jokes about it. However, the founder of Facebook is again in the spotlight, but this time for his salary.
One might imagine a billionaire CEO's salary being in the billions or at least millions. But Zuckerberg is technically the least-paid employee of Meta with only $1 or Rs. 83 as his base salary in 2023. It is nothing compared to a Meta employee's average salary of $379,000 (approx. Rs. 3 crores).
However, that doesn't mean he does not receive 'other compensations' from his company. While the salary is just a number, his actual income comes from these compensations, amounting to a hefty sum of over $24.4 million.
As per the reports by Fortune, a major chunk of his compensation goes towards funding his security and his private jet. In 2023, Meta CEO increased his security from $10 million in 2028 to over $14 million. There were some reductions in his security expenses due to Meta's 'efficiency year'. The compensation also goes towards funding his private jet which adds up to a sum of over $1 million.
According to Bloomberg, these compensations and perks from his companies have let Zuckerberg defeat Tesla owner Elon Musk in the billionaire race and take the third spot on the list. Zuckerberg has a net worth of $186.9 billion, while Musk currently has a net worth of $180.6 billion. Tesla's stocks have also been performing poorly with a drop of 34% in 2024, whereas, Meta stocks have risen by 49%.
