Pension scam alert: Fake WhatsApp texts targeting pensioners in Delhi

Sending WhatsApp messages

Pensioners in New Delhi are being targeted by a fake WhatsApp scam. The CPAO has advised pensioners not to share personal details and to be cautious. Learn how to protect yourself.

Such scams have increased in recent times

In recent times, scammers in Delhi have been sending fake WhatsApp messages posing as officials of the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO) to defraud pensioners.

Pensioners threatened with stoppage of pension

Through these messages, pensioners are being asked to fill out fake forms and are being warned that their pension will be stopped if they do not do so.

Follow these 5 steps to keep your pension safe

These types of messages are not only confusing pensioners but also stealing sensitive details like their bank account details and Pension Payment Order (PPO) numbers.

1. Important information for pensioners

Scammers steal pensioners' personal details, such as bank and PPO numbers, so that they can commit financial scams. In such a situation, pensioners need to be alert.

2. Verify the authenticity of the message

Always double-check the authenticity of texts received from CPAO or any other government agency. Government agencies do not ask for sensitive data on platforms like WhatsApp.

3. Never share personal details

Never share your PPO number, bank account information, or other personal information on WhatsApp or any other messaging app.

4. Contact the authorities directly

If you receive any suspicious message, contact the official numbers of CPAO or your bank instead of using the contact number provided in the message.

5. Be alert and report

To avoid this, pensioners should always keep themselves updated and inform other pensioners about it. If any fraud is detected, immediately inform the police.
