Alia Bhatt hosts the Hope Gala in London, supporting Salaam Bombay charity. Paparazzi affectionately call her 'Vahini'
Alia Bhatt took on the role of host at the Hope Gala held in London on Thursday evening, aiming to raise essential funds for underprivileged adolescents in India through the Salaam Bombay foundation. The event drew in notable figures including musician Harshdeep Kaur, comedian Rohan Joshi, and director Gurinder Chadha, among others. The venue, Mandarin Oriental, showcased Alia in two stunning outfits via a video shared on Instagram: a maroon dress for the red carpet and an exquisite cream, embroidered lace saree for the gala.
The gala served as a platform for Alia to throw her weight behind the Salaam Bombay charity, which prioritizes aiding Mumbai’s most vulnerable children through in-school programs fostering leadership and advocacy, alongside after-school academies focusing on skill-building. These initiatives are geared towards bolstering the confidence and self-esteem of the children while also encouraging them to pursue their education.
Interestingly, Alia found herself blushing when the paparazzi affectionately referred to her as 'Vahini' (sister-in-law in Marathi) as they spotted her en route to the gala in London. Prior to this, she was spotted at Mumbai airport late on Wednesday evening, rushing to catch her flight. Despite her hectic schedule, Alia graciously paused to take a photo with a young fan. As she navigated her way to the departure gate, she was greeted by the presence of cameramen, one of whom warmly addressed her as 'Vahini', prompting a bashful response from the actress. Nevertheless, she graciously smiled for the cameras before continuing her journey.
The paparazzi also seized the opportunity to inquire about Alia's husband, Ranbir Kapoor, adding to the buzz surrounding the actress. Alia, fresh from wrapping up filming for her upcoming project, 'Jigra', where she shares the screen with Vedang Raina, has demonstrated her versatility both in front of and behind the camera. 'Jigra' is a co-production under her banner and is directed by Vasan Bala. In addition to this, she has recently inked a deal for another venture with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, titled 'Love and War', reuniting her with her 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' director. This highly anticipated film also stars Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor.
