He was born in a Kshatriya family in Varanasi.
His father is a famous mathematician.
He was interested in sports since childhood and has also played basketball at the national level.
Later, he developed an interest in acting and wanted to join the National School of Drama. However, due to parental pressure, he could not attend that school.
He was a brilliant student, and after doing CPMT, he joined medical college.
He moved to Nagpur to pursue post-graduation in Ayurveda.
Vineet is a licensed physician with an MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Ayurveda.
He moved to Mumbai to fulfil his acting ambitions. He struggled in Mumbai while trying to find work.

In 2007, he was first seen in a minor role in film ‘Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli’.
Initially, he worked in Marathi, Tamil and Bengali films, and then later he worked in Hindi films like, ‘Viruddh,’ ‘Padmashree Lalu Prasad Yadav,’ ‘Deh,’ ‘Jannat,’ ‘Crook,’ etc.
He became the winner of 'Superstar- Talent Hunt', where he met Bollywood actor and filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar.
Mahesh Manjrekar gave him his first opportunity in the film industry as his assistant. Vineet worked as an assistant director with Mahesh Manjrekar in some Marathi films. While working as an assistant for Mahesh Manjrekar he got the opportunity of working with Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham.
Vineet’s lead role
He played the lead role of a police inspector in Mahesh Bhatt's film 'Bhukha'.
After a while, he stopped working as an assistant director and focused on his acting career.
After working in several films, he got a chance to meet filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who gave him the role of ‘Danish Khan’ in the film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. In this film, she starred alongside renowned actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, Richa Chadha, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. His performance earned him critical acclaim and he received many acting offers.
After playing the role of ‘Danish Khan’, he went on to act in films such as ‘Bombay Talkies’ (2013) and ‘Ugly’ (2014), where he was given his first screen nomination.
He has worked in TV commercials of companies like, 7 Up Nimbus and Birla Sun Life.
Vineet wrote the script of 'Mukkabaaz' and showed the script to Anurag Kashyap in the year 2016.
Training for ‘Mukkabaaz’
After 14 days, Anurag Kashyap called him, and assured him that he would make the film based on his script suggesting him to make some changes in the script while also training as a boxer.
Vineet took training in boxing for 1 year from a training academy in Patiala, a popular training centre for professional players. The film was released in 2017.
