Rakhi Sawant was born in Mumbai. Growing up, she was subjected to abuse and humiliation. As a child, she did odd jobs to earn a living. 

Her original name was Neeru Bheda.

Rakhi Sawant’s career as a performer

She did not receive any support from her family to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. However, Rakhi formed connections with several Indian producers and started giving dance performances. 

Rakhi Sawant made a minor appearance in the 1997 film ‘Agnichakra.’ She used the screen name ‘Ruhi Sawant’ for this project. Later, she changed her screen name to ‘Rakhi Sawant.’

In the year 2001, Rakhi Sawant did her first dance number on the song ‘Bam Bhole Bam Bhole’ for the film ‘Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke.’

Rakhi Sawant’s breakthrough

She had her first breakthrough with the popular song ‘Mohabbat Hai Mirchi’ from the 2003 Hindi film ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne’ starring Zayed Khan and Esha Deol. 

In the year 2007, she participated as a contestant with her then partner Abhishek Awasthi in the dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye Season 3.’ The two became the runners-up of the dance show.

Rakhi Sawant established a political party called ‘Rashtriya Aam Party’ with green chilli as the symbol. She contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and faced defeat.

In November 2018, Rakhi Sawant announced her marriage with TV personality Deepak Kalal. However, the marriage was called off later due to some reasons.
