Anil was born in a Punjabi family of film producers. 

Initially, his family lived in Raj Kapoor's garage and later, they found a place in the chawl area of Mumbai.

Till the age of 13, he never wore shoes and used to walk barefoot.

He was once suspended from grade 12 for low attendance.

His father was a famous film producer, who initially worked as an assistant director.

He failed the written examination of Pune Film Institute.  

Anil Kapoor’s first Bollywood role

In 1979, he made his first Bollywood appearance in a supporting role in the film ‘Hamare Tumhare’. Impressed by his performance, Yash Chopra offered him the lead role in the film ‘Mashaal’ (1984).

In the year 1986, Anil Kapoor sang a song as a playback singer for the film ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’. 

The role of ‘Mr India’ was first offered to Amitabh Bachchan, but then Anil Kapoor was given the chance to play this lead role. The film was released in 1987 and he received immense appreciation for his performance. 

His super hit film ‘Tezaab’ (1988) was a political drama film.
