A Japan Airlines aircraft from Dallas to Tokyo was canceled owing to an incident involving the captain. The pilot, who had flown in from Tokyo, allegedly got drunk and raucous at the crew's hotel in Texas, causing trouble to other guests and staff. While the pilot had no visible alcohol by the planned departure time, Japan Airlines ruled that the captain was unfit to fly to ensure the crew's safety.

According to Japanese news agency The Mainichi, authorities issued an urgent alert to the pilot upon his arrival at the hotel. Because of the incident and the lack of a substitute pilot, the scheduled JAL flight from Dallas' Fort Worth International Airport to Tokyo's Haneda Airport at 11:05 a.m. was canceled. Approximately 157 passengers were then moved to another flight.

It is unclear whether the pilot received any repercussions for his actions at this time. However, Japan Airlines stated that the pilot was declared unsuitable to fly following an assessment of his physical and mental health.

Although the pilot did not breach the airline's policy prohibiting alcohol use within 12 hours of boarding, he was barred from flying as a precaution. The captain said he was ignorant of the pilot's intoxication.

According to Insider, a spokeswoman for JAL Airlines issued an apology, stating, "It is true that the captain ingested alcohol. There was sufficient time between consuming alcohol and scheduled duty hours. They sincerely apologize to the customers who were affected by this flight cancelation.

They were completely aware of the gravity of the situation. To avoid a similar situation in the future, we will properly adopt preventative measures and seek to rebuild trust in our airline.
