Paris: The recent shooting in Strasbourg Christmas market has put France under the spell of terrorist attacks again. France is not a new witness to these attacks. In the last decade the country has seen more than 25 attacks in the forms of shooting, stabbing, beheading, vehicular ramming and bombing.

December 11, 2018

A gunman shot and killed 3 people before fleeing the scene when he opened fire at the famous Christmas market in the Strasbourg city, Paris. Around 13 others were injured.

May 12, 2018

A Chechnya born French citizen wielding a knife was shot dead by police in the second arrondissement of Paris as he attacked and killed one person and injured several others. The knifeman shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) during the attack which prompted a terror probe.

March 23, 2018

Four people including policeman Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Beltrame were killed by gunman Radouane Lakdim in the southern towns of Trèbes and Carcassonne. Beltrame died in hospital after being stabbed in the throat. He swapped places to become a hostage.  Lakdim’s bid was the release of Salah Abdeslam a suspect in the November 2015 Paris attacks.

October 1, 2017

Two women were stabbed to death in train station in the city of Marseille. The Islamic State (IS) Group claimed responsibility. The assailant, 29-year old, Ahmed Hanachi was shot dead by soldiers on patrol

April 20, 2017

Bearing a Kalashnikov assault rifle, 39-year old Karim Cheurfi was shot dead for killing a policeman and injuring two others. A note praising IS was found near his body. The IS group claimed responsibility for the attack

July 26, 2016

Two Islamist terrorists slit the throat of 85-year-old priest, Father Jacques Hamel, in a church in Normandy as he was celebrating a mass in front of other worshippers. Both teenage terrorists, Abdel Malik Petitjean and Adel Kermiche, were killed by police.  IS claimed responsibility for the murder.

July 14, 2016

A crowd gathered for Bastille Day fireworks were ploughed down by a truck driven by a 31-year-old Tunisian, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31. The attack claimed the lives of 86 people and injured more than 400. Bouhlel was shot dead by security forces. IS claimed responsibility for the attack.

November 13 and 14, 2015

In what is deemed to be the worst terror attack that France has ever witnessed. A series of shootings and bombings by IS jihadists in Paris left 130 people dead and 350 wounded. The gunmen and suicide bombers hit a concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars, almost simultaneously

June 26, 2015

Yassin Salhi beheaded his employer and displayed the severed head surrounded by two Islamic flags. He drove his boss’ van in a failed attempt blow up his employer’s gas plant but was arrested. He later committed suicide in jail.  

January 7-9, 2015

In a series of connected terror attacks that started off with the attack in the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, 12 people were killed by two armed men.  A policewoman was shot dead and another injured in the southern Paris suburb of Montrouge. A gunman killed four hostages at Jewish supermarket. The attackers claimed allegiance to Al-Qaeda and the IS. They were killed in separate standoffs
