Indian Grandmaster Gukesh won the 2024 World Chess Championship in Singapore, defeating China's Ding Liren.

Family

Gukesh, who became the World Chess Champion at 18, is the son of Dr Rajinikanth, an ENT surgeon, and Padma, a microbiologist.

Gukesh broke the record of world champion Garry Kasparov, who was the youngest world champion until now.

Learning chess

As per reports, Gukesh started playing chess at the age of 7. He would practice chess for one hour, 3 days in a week.

When Gukesh's remarkable performance was acknowledged by his chess teachers, he started participating in several competitions.
