The Lok Sabha Speaker is the presiding officer who is responsible for maintaining decorum, facilitating legislative business, and overall representing the Lok Sabha's power.
After the general elections, members of the Lok Sabha propose their candidates. Lok Sabha members then elect among the candidates via secret ballot voting.
The elected speaker then has to resign from their party to eliminate bias. The speaker ensures protection of members' rights, maintains order, and conducts procedures unbiasedly.
The Lok Sabha speaker takes charge of the house for 5 years, i.e., from the day they are elected to before the very first meeting of the next Lok Sabha.
The speaker can be re-elected and can only resign from the post if they are not a member of the Lok Sabha and write a resignation or get removed by a majority.
