Train Accidents: How much compensation is provided?

On early Monday morning, Kanchanjunga Express (13174) collided with a goods train in Darjeeling, West Bengal. 

The government has announced compensation for the injured and deceased passengers. 
 

To claim train compensation, it’s essential to keep train details with you.
 

If you’re travelling by train, it is advisable to get an insurance. In case of an accident, your insurance provider can give valuable assistance for claiming compensation.
 

Rs 50,000 in cash is given as in-gratia relief. It is provided for taking care of immediate medical expenses.
 

The Railways provides compensation in cases of train accidents. However, compensation is not provided for deaths resulting from electric shocks at stations or similar incidents. 
 

 If a passenger is injured in a train accident, the Railways provides compensation of Rs 2 lakh.
 

Depending on the seriousness of injury, financial assistance ranging from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh is provided. 
 

In the unfortunate event of a passenger’s death due to a train accident, the government provides a compensation of Rs 8 lakh or more to the deceased’s family.
