Born on 28 September 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was often referred to as the ‘Nightingale of India.’
Her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar was a Konkani classical singer and theatre actor.
Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest among her siblings, Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
At the age of 5, Lata Mangeshkar began working with her father in his musical plays.
Lata Mangeshkar took lessons in Hindustani classical music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan before her Bollywood debut.
Lata Mangeshkar made her debut in Bollywood with the song ‘Paa Lagoon Kar Jori’ in the year 1946.
Gradually, Lata Mangeshkar gained recognition for her versatility. She often received praise for her ability to adapt to modern and traditional form of singing.

Lata Mangeshkar won several prestigious awards in recognition of her music legacy.
She was honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 2001, Padma Bhushan in 1969, Padma Vibhushan in 1999, and three National Film Awards etc.
Lata Mangeshkar bid farewell to the world on 6 February 2022, at the age of 92.
