It was recently announced that renowned lyricist and poet Gulzar will be honoured with the Jnanpith Award, India’s highest literary award.
The Jnanpith Committee announced that Jnanpith Award will be bestowed upon the renowned Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, and Urdu poet Gulzar.
Born in 1934, Gulzar has been honoured with several awards in his lifetime.
Gulzar is credited with pioneering a unique literary form called ‘Triveni,’ which is a form of poetry comprising of three lines.
Gulzar has directed popular Hindi films including Parichay, Aandhi, Mere Apne, Mausam, and Lekin.
Gulzar has received prestigious awards including the Dadasaheb Award, Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award, and 5 National Film Awards.
In 2008, Gulzar won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 2010, he received the Grammy Award for the category Song Written for Visual Media.
Gulzar has worked with renowned artists like Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Anu Malik, AR Rahman, Shankar Jaikishan, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Hemant Kumar, and many others.
