Bihar implemented complete ban on alcohol in April 2016. The prohibition was enacted to curb crime. However, it has been unsuccessful in preventing smuggling.
Gujarat has been observing prohibition since the formation of the state in 1960. Gandhi's principles are strictly followed here. Also, strict laws are in place.
Mizoram undertook prohibition in 1997, led by the Church and women's groups. The ban was lifted between 2015-2019. However, the ban is being re-implemented.
Lakshadweep enforces strict alcohol laws. The sale and consumption of alcohol are restricted to only a few resorts on the island.
Prohibition has been in effect in Nagaland since 1989. However, the black market and alcohol smuggling are still issues here.
