How to avoid car insurance scams in 2024

1. Fake car insurance policies

Before finalizing an insurance policy, conduct your own research and find out about the company and the agent.

2. Read all the terms and conditions

Read the terms and conditions thoroughly. Consult an expert if you don’t understand some jargon mentioned in the policy.

3. Check car policy number

Always check the car policy number provided by the insurance company when you buy a policy.

4. Know the company details

Before buying a policy, verify if there are any other companies operating under the same name. You can find this information online on the IRDAI portal.

5. UID number

Insurance companies are given a unique UID number from IRDAI. This is mostly mentioned in the insurance policy. If this number is not mentioned in the policy, it may be fake.

6. Checking the QR code

According to IRDAI guidelines, every insurance company must include a QR code. It contains all the details regarding your policy.

7. Online payments

Rather than paying through cash, make the payment online. If you are writing a cheque, make sure it's made out to the insurance company, not the agent
