Residents in Yakutsk adapt to the extreme cold by wearing as many as 10 to 15 layers. The coldness also leads to numbness in the body.
In January, the coldest month, the temperatures drop to -65 degrees.
Due to the extreme cold weather, Yakutsk boasts of no tourism. The region is known for its economic activities, including the mining of coal, diamonds and gold.
The city is not entirely developed due to the persistent winter conditions. During the summer, people use boats, while in winter, skateboards are used for transportation.
