If you are planning to make idlis at home this weekend, then we have got just the right recipe for you.
Wash the rice and urad dal separately. Soak them in water for a minimum of 4 to 6 hours.
Later, drain the water from urad dal and blend it. Grind it to achieve a thick consistency. Next, grind the soaked rice, ensuring a coarse texture.
In a bowl, mix the urad and rice batter together. Add salt according to taste preferences. While mixing, maintain a thick consistency.
For best results, allow the batter to ferment in a warm place for 8 to 10 hours.
Apply oil to idli plates. Pour the batter into the plates and place them inside an idli steamer or pressure cooker.
Steam the idlis over medium heat for 10-12 minutes. Prick them with a toothpick to ensure they are fully cooked.
Carefully remove the idlis from the plates using a knife. Serve the fluffy idlis with sambhar or coconut chutney.
