Meet IAS officer Renu Raj, who secured 2nd rank in UPSC as a surgeon

Renu Raj successfully secured the IAS position by achieving an impressive All India Rank of 2.
 

Her father held a respectable position in the government services. Renu completed her schooling from St Teresa’s Higher Secondary School in Changanassery.
 

Renu Raj pursued her medical education at the Government Medical College, Kottayam. She first pursed a career in medicine by becoming a surgeon.
 

As a surgeon, Renu Raj attended 50 to 100 patients at the ASI Hospital, Kalluvathukkal. One day, she realized she could make a greater impact by pursuing civil services. 

While working as a surgeon, Renu Raj began her preparations for the UPSC exam. During her preparation in 2013, she dedicated 3-6 hours daily to her studies. 
 

She is married to Sriram Venkitaraman, also an IAS officer. Renu was previously married to Dr Bhagat LS, a professional in healthcare.
