Maniram’s journey from peon rejection to IAS officer triumph

Maniram’s family

Maniram Sharma is a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan. His father used to work as a labourer and his mother is visually challenged. Maniram also had a hearing disability.

Overcoming challenges

Maniram used to walk 5 kilometres to school daily. His dedication paid off as he secured fifth rank in class 10th and seventh rank in class 12th board exams.

Getting rejected from a peon’s position

Maniram’s father tried to secure a job for him at the BDO’s office. The BDO rejected Maniram’s application stating that he couldn’t hear, and was unfit for the position.

A doctorate degree

Maniram pursued a PhD degree and passed the Rajasthan Public Service Commission exam. He got appointment as a clerk and later became a lecturer by clearing the NET exam.

Cracking UPSC

Maniram cracked the UPSC exam in the year 2005. He persevered and cleared the UPSC again in 2006. He was appointed in the Post and Telegraph Accounts department.

Medical surgery for hearing impairment

Maniram underwent a successful ear operation that cost Rs 7 lakh. He received the generous support of the local MP and the community.

Becoming an IAS Officer

Maniram made a remarkable recovery after the operation. In UPSC 2009 exam, he cleared the exams the third time, and accomplished his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
