Arunima Sinha lost her leg in an unfortunate train accident. However, she refused to succumb to her circumstances and went on to make history.
Arunima Sinha was born on 20 July 1989 in Lucknow. Her father served in the Indian Army and her mother used to work in the health department.
Arunima Sinha had a dream of becoming a volleyball player and joining the paramilitary forces. She even received a letter from the CISF which was a significant achievement for her.
Arunima met with a terrible accident on 12 April 2011. As per reports, she boarded the Padmavati Express on that day to appear for the CISF exam.
A group of five robbers in the train tried snatching Arunima’s belongings, and she fought back.
The robbers pushed Arunima out of the train. She fell and her leg below the knee was crushed by the impact. After blood loss, she fainted on the tracks.
Arunima was taken to the hospital when the villagers found her in the morning. During the surgery, her leg had to be amputated due to the severity of the injuries.
A company in Delhi provided support and financed the purchase of artificial legs for Arunima.
After being discharged from the hospital, Arunima began pursuing new dreams She sought inspiration from Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest.
In the pursuit of her dreams, Arunima joined the Nehru Mountaineering Institute and Tata Steel Adventure in Uttarkashi.
On 21 May 2013, Arunima Sinha made history by becoming the world’s first female amputee to scale Mount Everest.
