Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has replaced General Manoj Pande as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will officially assume the role on June 30, 2024, after the retirement of General Manoj Pande.
Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi was born on July 1, 1964, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh
Lieutenant General Dwivedi was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles of the Infantry Division of Indian Army on December 15, 1984. He has over 40 years of experience.
He is an alumnus of Sainik School, National Defence College and the US Army War College.
He received the 'Distinguished Fellow' award at USAWC, Carlisle, USA.
His father used to work as a mining officer, while his mother was a homemaker. He is the youngest of three brothers.
His elder brother Dr PC Dwivedi was the Dean of Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa. His only sister, Dr Pushpa Pandey, is a gynaecologist at Jabalpur District Hospital.
Lieutenant General Dwivedi holds an M Phil degree in Defence and Management Studies and two master's degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.
