PC Ray was the first Indian to start a pharmaceutical company in India. He founded Bengal Chemicals to enhance the research and development of modern medicine in India.
During British rule, Indians didn't have much opportunity to study. The ones who were good were sent abroad on scholarships to study and return home to contribute to society.
PC Ray was born in 1861 in the Bengal Presidency (now Bangladesh). He studied at Ambert School Calcutta, passed the FA exam, and got admitted to the University of Calcutta.
Prafulla earned a scholarship, moved to Edinburgh University, UK, and enrolled for BSc. He also received a DSc. and was rewarded with a 'Hope Prize' for his thesis.
PC Ray established India's first Indian Chemistry research school. Ray was one of India's first modern Indian chemical researchers and is known as the 'Father of Indian Chemistry'.
