BJP’s MP from Kota, Om Birla has been re-elected as the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Om Birla will serve his second term as Lok Sabha Speaker. Before him, Congress MP Balram Jakhar was the only other MP to have completed two terms as Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
After 1976, this was the first time that the Speaker of the Lok Sabha was elected through voting.
During his last tenure, the Parliament navigated the challenges of the pandemic.
Om Birla started his political journey as a student leader. He served in the Rajasthan Assembly for three consecutive terms in 2003, 2008 and 2013.
Om Birla won his first Lok Sabha election in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019.
Om Birla attended Government Commerce College, Kota, and Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University. He holds BCom and MCom degrees.
Om Birla and his wife Amita Birla are parents to two daughters, Akansha and Anjali.
