The Jal Jeevan Mission, which was launched by PM Narendra Modi aiming to ensure safe and sufficient drinking water access for rural households, has hit a major milestone.
Under the mission, furnished tap water connections have now been provided to more than 75% of households nationwide as of March 7.
A total of 14.50 crore (75.15%) of rural households in the country have been provided with tap water connections
A total of 185 districts, 1,812 blocks, 1,00,044 Gram Panchayats, and 2,09,481
villages have reported to achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status
Over 2.23 crore households (75.14%) in Japanese Encephalitis (JE)-Acute
Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) water quality-affected regions are getting access to clean tap water
Union Territories that have provided tap water connection to all rural households (100%) are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra-Nagar Haveli and Daman-Diu
States like Goa, Haryana, Telangana, Puducherry, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh also have 100% connectivity
As of March 14, 2024, a total of 9,30,460 schools and 9,65,960 Aanganwadi centres have tap water supply
