Raksha Bandhan 2024 will be observed on Monday, August 19. There is a significant story of the sacred Rakhi bond from the Mughal era. Let’s read about it.
Rani Karnavati was the queen of Chittorgarh and the widow of Rana Sanga. During her reign, Chittorgarh faced an invasion by Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat.
As Sultan Bahadur Shah approached Chittorgarh, she was concerned about her kingdom. She realized that her forces were insufficient to defend against the Sultan's army.
Rani Karnavati decided to send a Rakhi to Mughal Emperor Humayun, whom she regarded as a brother. She sent the Rakhi with a plea for his assistance in defending her kingdom.
Rakhi symbolizes the bond between a brother and sister, with the brother pledging to protect his sister. Rani Karnavati sent the Rakhi to Humayun, believing in this sacred promise.
Upon receiving the Rakhi, Humayun honoured the gesture and agreed to help Rani Karnavati. He then led his army towards Chittorgarh to offer help.
Humayun set out to help Rani Karnavati, but he was unable to arrive in time. Sultan Bahadur Shah had captured Chittorgarh.
After losing the battle, Rani Karnavati, chose to commit Jauhar, along with other women, by jumping into the fire to protect their honour.
The story of Rani Karnavati and Humayun symbolizes the sacred bond between a brother and sister.
