The Dhingra brothers acquired the Berger Paints and since then the company has been India's leading paint company. In 2023, the company generated a revenue of Rs 10,619 crore.
As per Forbes, the duo has a combined net worth of Rs 68,467 crore, or $8.2 billion. Kuldip Singh Dhingra is the Chairman of Berger Paints, and Gurbachan serves as Vice Chairman.
The Dhingra family has been involved in the paint business since 1898. After their studies at Delhi University, the brothers expanded by setting up new shops in Amritsar, Punjab.
In 1970s, the shops generated an annual revenue of Rs 10 lakh. This allowed the brothers to expand overseas in the Soviet Union. In 1980s, business generated Rs 300 crore annually.
In the 1990s, the brothers acquired the British paint company, Berger Paints from Vijay Mallya, and changed it into a household brand in India and offshore with loyal customers.
Kuldip Singh Dhingra's daughter Rishma Kaur and Gurbachan Singh Dhingra's son Kanwardip Singh are the executive directors at the Berger Paints Headquarters, Kolkata.
