Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP leader and former Kagwad MLA Raju Kage courted controversy by calling the state chief minister HD Kumaraswamy “buffalo'. Raju was speaking at an election campaign and was responding to Kumaraswamy's comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kumaraswamy had commented on Modi's appearance, his frequent changing of clothes in a day and so on.
Raju said, "HDK says Modi applies powder 10 times a day and changes clothes 10 times in a day. He is fair and looks good but you can't. Even if you bathe 100 times in a day, you look like a buffalo."
BJP spokesperson Tejaswini Ramesh backed Raju's comment. She said Kumaraswamy being a former film producer, knows best about make-up and other things.
"When he can say that Modi applied wax on hair, puts on make-up, HDK should also comment on his shining bald head," said Tejaswini.
Criticising Raju, Congress spokesperson Kengal Shreepada Renu said, "This is an insult to the entire Vokkaliga community. By calling HDK as buffalo and commenting on his dark colour, the BJP leader has insulted the Vokkaligas."
JD(S) spokesperson Tanveer Ahmed said dark skin colour indicates hard work and 'moolanivasi' (original inhabitants). Modi looks fair but he is dark from inside and so are his followers.
