Tamil Nadu: Rameswaram celebrates Eid-al-Adha in fervour

Rameswaram: Bakrid or Eid-al-Adha is being celebrated across the country with great pomp and show. Muslims sacrifice animals and distribute the meat to friends, relatives and the poor.
The festival of sacrifice is being celebrated with fervour in Ramanathapuram district today.
Muslims offered prayers and spread the importance of sacrifice. Clerics appealed to everyone to lead a virtuous life. Participants were asked to shun sins and not be lured by worldly allurements.
Muslims in the Ramanathapuram celebrated the festival by offering special prayers at Id-Gahs (prayer grounds) and mosques in more than 400 places and offered animal sacrifices.
They sacrificed goats, sheep, bulls and camels in the two districts and offered the meat as Qurbani to the poor and relatives. In Ramanathapuram, 600 goats and sheep and 50 bulls in all its branches and distributed Qurbani to the poor.
Women offered prayers at separate halls adjacent to the mosques and Id-Gahs.
