Tamil Nadu fishermen violate rules; venture into sea before govt lifts ban

Ramanathapuram: Hundreds of fishermen from the coastal area violated the Tamil Nadu Marine Fishing Regulation Act, and ventured into the sea on Friday (June 14) evening, hours before the end of the 60-day ban period at midnight.
According to reports, the Ramanathapuram fishermen did not obtain fishing permits as well from the fisheries department.
The fishermen ventured into the sea on Friday at 6 pm and returned to the bay on Saturday (June 15) in the wee hours. Officials from the fisheries department said that strict action would be initiated against the erring fishermen and also directed the assistant directors of the department to prepare a list of fishermen, who violated the rules.
