Tamil Nadu: 23-year-old DYFI worker hacked to death over ‘caste issue’

Tirunelveli: A youth in Tamil Nadu’s Thachanallur in Tirunelveli was hacked to death due to a suspected caste feud between two groups in the region. Family members of the deceased have blocked the roads demanding justice and immediate arrest of the assailants.
23-year-old Ashok who belonged to the Scheduled Caste and who was the district treasurer of the Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI), was hacked to death, allegedly, by a gang belonging to another caste on Wednesday night. Protests broke out across the region seeking immediate arrest of those behind the crime.
Police have sent the body to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Security has been heightened in the region.
According to police, Ashok was attacked by a gang when he was walking home on Wednesday night. The gang then threw the body on a nearby railway track.
The gang allegedly attacked Ashok for confronting them after they had assaulted his mother. Police sources said four youth in their early twenties had orchestrated the murder.
