Kolkata: Thousands of Left workers in the city held a protest fighting for education and unemployment. The march began from  Singur under the banner of Students' Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). Though the rally started on September 12, it was said to end on September 13.Â
However, the protest march took an ugly turn after the angry protesters outnumbered Kolkata Police, opting for a violent protest. The protesters raised slogans against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and claimed that All India Trinamool Congress's (TMC) chief failed to fulfil her promises with respect to education and employment for all youths.
