Indian Navy rescues fishermen stranded near Polavaram cofferdam

Polavaram: Indian Navy deployed two UH-3H helicopters from INS Dega, Visakhapatnam to rescue fishermen stranded at Polavaram in West Godavari District on the morning of August 9. 31 fisherpersons, including 12 women and children along with their boats were stuck upstream near a cofferdam at Polavaram near Gandi Pochamma Temple.
According to reports, during rescue operations, three fishermen fainted due to hunger.
Disaster management officials have warned fishermen not to venture into the sea, given the prevalence of floods in various parts of the country.
According to reports, 60 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 156 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have been deployed at different locations in East Godavari along with 111 personnel of the fire services department. Meanwhile, 30 NDRF, 69 SDRF and 49 Fire Services personnel have been deployed in West Godavari district.
