German woman to donate books worth Rs 2.5 crore to Kerala’s Gundert Bungalow library

Kannur: Dr Herman Gundert, the revered German missionary, scholar and lexicographer lived in the Gundert Bungalow in Kerala for 20 years from 1839. It was from here he developed the first Malayalam dictionary and the first Malayalam newspaper Paschimodayam.
Now, a German native named Mary Elizabeth Muller has decided to donate all her book collection which includes approximately 15,000 books worth Rs 2.5 crore to the Gundert Bungalow library, Thalassery in Kannur district. The book collection contains 75% of German books, history books, philosophy books and literature books.
