Chennai airport customs officials seize Rs 1.37 crore, exotic animals in separate incidents

Chennai: Customs officials in Chennai had a field day on Tuesday in Chennai after they seized gold bars, currencies and exotic reptiles in separate incidents.
12 people from Sri Lanka and India have been arrested for smuggling gold bars in their underwear and suitcases. Three kilograms of gold was seized and 1.37 crore in cash of various currencies were recovered from the arrested.
In another instance, a man was caught smuggling reptiles and tortoises into Chennai from Thailand. Snakes, frogs, iguanas, tortoises were kept in sweet boxes.
Forest Officials examined the animals and have arranged for them to be taken back to Thailand.
