Chennai: A 26-year-old woman was brutally attacked with a machete by her jilted lover on Friday (June 14) evening in public view. According to reports, the Chetpet Police are finding it difficult to investigate the incident as there are no CCTV cameras in the station.
The victim, Thenmozhi, who was waiting to board a train to Egmore, where she lived in a women's hostel, was attacked by Surender, who works with a private company.
It is alleged that Thenmozhi had decided to marry a man of her parent's choice, which drove Surender to kill her. The Chetpet railway police reportedly said that Surender aimed to swing the machete at Thenmozhi's neck but slashed her cheek and chopped her four fingers of the right hand.
Surender later tried committing suicide by jumping on to the railway track, but escaped death. Both the girl and the accused have been shifted to the hospital.
