Anandiben Patel becomes second woman governor of Uttar Pradesh after Sarojini Naidu

Lucknow: Gujarat's first woman chief minister Anandiben Patel has been appointed as the 34th governor of Uttar Pradesh. She has become the second woman governor of the state after Dr Sarojini Naidu in 1947. Back then, Uttar Pradesh was called United Province. Today (July 29), Anandiben took oath as Uttar Pradesh governor from Chief Justice Govind Mathur at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow. Previous Governor Ram Naik handed over the charge to Anandiben. In 2014, Anandiben became the 15th chief minister of Gujarat succeeding Narendra Modi. Anandiben stopped contesting elections in 2018 and in the same year was appointed as the governor of Madhya Pradesh. She also held additional charge as governor of Chhattisgarh.
